There’s a version of a new single that just fills space until the next one drops, and “Phuma Kuye” featuring Mabhlukwe isn’t that. Sithasevaka settles into a smooth, unhurried groove here and lets it carry the whole track instead of reaching for a big moment early, which gives the record a patience that’s easy to miss on a first, distracted listen.
The vocals and instrumentation clearly aren’t working against each other, each one making room for the other rather than competing for space in the mix. It’s a balance that rewards a proper listen through decent speakers, not just a quick pass through a phone speaker in the background.
Stream or download “Phuma Kuye” below whenever it suits you, and give it more than the first fifteen seconds before deciding where it fits. It holds up fine on its own if you’d rather sit with just the one track for a while.
